U16 National Cup V Charleville
Our U16’s bowed out of the National Cup at the last 32 stage after a very poor second half performance saw the visitors score five unanswered goals at home on Saturday.
Having taken the lead after two minutes from our first corner of the game with a brave header from Terence Carmody, we dominated large part of the first half. Unfortunately we failed to use the strong breeze in our favour but were also unlucky on at least two occasions as John Carmody rattled the crossbar with the keeper stranded inside the first five minutes & later in the half when John’s goal bound shot ran along the face of goal.
Charleville also had chances in the half with Gavin Doody making a double save just before halftime but the visitors equalized just after when Gavin looked to have been fouled going for the ball from a corner.
HT 1 – 1
The second half was one way traffic for the most part & once Charleville went in front early from the restart they upped their game. Two goals in four minutes finished the game as a contest & they saw out the game for a deserved victory on a final score line of 6 – 1 with the visitors centeforward scoring an absolute beauty into the top corner.
Credit to Colin Walsh, Andrew Murphy, Cian Purcell & our MOTM John Carmody who never stopped playing.
Also while we’re disappointed to be out of the competition, we had a great run & it will benefit our lads in the long term as the standard is so high at this stage & our boys can see the level they need to reach.
Thanks to all the parents for providing food for the Charleville lads & also to the visitors for being so sporting in victory. We wish them well in the last sixteen.
We now await the winner of Killarney Celtic & Charleville to see who we will play in the Regional semis.
