The Park A’s continued their excellent early season form with a good win over Mastergeeha at Christy Leahy Park on Saturday. Conditions were excellent after heavy overnight rain gave way to a bright sunny afternoon.
Park went on the offensive from the off and after 2 minutes an excellent through ball from Sean Kederski found Darragh Capliss whose well timed lob evaded the keeper and found the top of the cross bar, bouncing over.
After 6 minutes though, Park opened the scoring when Kederski again found Capliss who slotted the ball past the keeper into the net. The Park had the majority of the play for most of the half, coming close on a number of occasions, however, Mastergeeha were proving dangerous on the break and passed up on one or two good opportunities to score. This proved costly on 34 minutes when a superb John O’Connor corner was met via a defensive deflection by centre half, Ryan Guerin, who powered a header to the back of the net.
Darragh Walsh making his first start at centre half was very strong in the air and Adam Sheehy at right back was timing his challenges really well getting forward to support the attacks at every opportunity.
Half Time: Park A 2, Mastergeeha 0.
The Park upped their performance even further in the second half and took full control of the game. On 42 minutes, O’Connor linked up with Earnan Ferris who crossed superbly for Capliss to score his second of the afternoon. Another goal effectively sealed the win 2 minutes later when Tomas O’Sullivan got his first goal for the side with a great strike low to the left hand corner of the goal.
On 49 minutes, Ferris and Capliss combined again for Darragh to notch his hat-trick. 4 minutes later, when Cian Brosnan, who was superb up and down the left wing, neatly struck the sides 6th goal.
Towards the end of the second half, Capliss struck his 4th and 5th of the game and the scoring was rounded off when Robert Vasiu found Jack Twamley who put a terrific ball through for David O’Callaghan who expertly found the back of the net with a clinical finish.
FT: Park A 9, Mastergeeha 0.
All in all, a very good performance from this talented group of players who all played their part. Special mention for Graham Sheehy who covered for the injured Sean Broderick in goals. Credit also to Mastergeeha who played positively right up to the end of the game and will rue a number of missed chances earlier in the match.
