While it ended with a good win for the Park boys it wasn’t all plain sailing for them on a cold, wet winter’s day in the KDL.
Park enjoyed huge amounts of possession in both halves but they were only two up at half time due to the dogged resistance of the Dynamos lads.
Josh Connolly opened the scoring with a fine header and it looked like that would lead to plenty of more goals in the first half. However, Park had to settle for Colin Doody’s excellent long range effort as chance after chance went a begging.
Early second half goals from Adam Wharton and Sean O’Connor, both assisted by Cianan Cooney, effectively killed off the game. From then on it was mostly Park possession but the Dynamos lads kept trying. Adam Wharton again, Samuel Aladesanusi and Kieran O’Connor applied the finishing touches to what was a decent win in their first game back since the Christmas break.
On a footnote, congratulations to the KDL for their decision to continue with U-17 League of Ireland football for the coming season. Hopefully we will see many of the players who featured in this match donning their county colours at that level in a few years time.
