On Saturday evening Abbeyfeale Utd. traveled to Christy Leahy park to provide the opposition for a much needed game for our U11 A squad ahead of a cup game next week. The game took place on the same pitch as the one used to play the U13 National Cup game and the quality of the game lived up to that served up earlier by Park U13 and Leixlip.
The game started at a really good pace and was particularly competitive for all of the first half. Cian played the complete game in goals and was assisted by a defence of Jack and Danny in the centre with Fichra and Ben providing cover as the full backs. Our defensive 5 played really solid in a first half that yielded no goals for the opposition. The underfoot conditions were heavy and made fast passing difficult but the midfield of Adam, Fionan and Micheal worked really hard to get the ball to Venice who was working the line up front. Chances were hard to come by in the first half but when they did both goalkeepers made really good saves to keep the score level at half time.
HT Abbeyfeale 0 – 0 Park U11 A
The second half started with some changes being made when Conor, Cillian and Colin come on in midfield and up front. The fresh legs seemed to lift the Park lads and Abbeyfeale started to get more stretched throughout the pitch. It wasn’t long before the first goal of the game was scored. The goal came at the end of a good team move with Fionan just getting the better of the
Abbeyfeale goalkeeper when he slid in at the back post to finish to the back of the net. Park now started to dominate possession and were beginning to play some nice football. It was during this period that Colin got his first of the game when he finished to the left corner when the ball broke to him at the edge of the area. Park were now two goals to the good and enjoying their football. A number of positional changes were made to give lads opportunities to play in different positions and also to learn to play different formations. Its encouraging that with extensive changes that the football played remained positive. The last goal of the game went to the Park also when Colin came in from the left and finished to the right corner. 3 – 0 to the Park. Our defence saw out the end of the game without conceding and both teams shook hands on a most enjoyable encounter.
We look forward to playing a return fixture in Abbeyfeale in the near future and would like to thank them for travelling to Tralee. We’d also like to thank the parents who brought sandwiches, cakes, drinks etc. for those that travelled. It’s a really nice gesture to visiting clubs and is appreciated by everyone associated with St. Brendans Park F.C. and shows the club in a positive light.
Finally, well done to all the St. Brendan’s Park lads who had their first outing in Kerry shirts today when they played against West Cork in Mastergeeha, you did the club proud.
Training continues as normal this week with a cup game fixed for Saturday at home to Castleisland.
