The night was more than just about the result . This game showed what a great club we have and was played in the right manor from start to finish . The 2002 team who are refered to as the legends got off to the perfect start when they went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Richie Greer . The 2013 who we will call the Wishful’s team tried to get back into thte match and no matter how many shots Mike Coway had he couldnt find the net . Fergal Maunsel finally got the game level with five minutes to the break . However the legends regained the lead just before the break with the move of the match saw Pogga McCannon score with a diving header at the back post . The legends held this lead to the break thanks to some great goalkeeping from Tommy Naughton and supered defending from players such as Timmy Lynch , Martin Courtney, Mike McCannon , Pj Houlihan and David o Leary .
The half time break saw the lengends enjoys the lead while the Wishfuls seemed stunned as to what had happened . It didnt take long for them to make it level when David Rogers scored from close range . However the legends again went looking for the lead and with midfielders like David Conway, Adrian Quirke, Pogga McCannon and Paul Hennebery they were always going to creat chances for the strikers . Midway through the second half saw another good move with Eoin Moynihan setting up Damien Reid to make it 3-2 to the legends . How ever as the game went on the Wishfuls youth and fitness began to take control. Mike Conway levelled it at 3-3 when he finally scored after numerous attempts and then David Courtney got what was to be the winner with five minutes remaining . The Legends kept going and with strikers like Eoin Moynihan , Richie Greer and Damien Reid they were always hopeful to gety level . However time ran out and it ended in a 4-3 win for the Wishful’s .
A fantastic game played in great spirits which seen two teams walk on and off the field with smiles on their faces . Well Done to everyone inviolved and a special thanks to Rob Powell for a good job as referee .
