National Cup 1st Round
This was the first game of the trilogy as the Park Lads faced Killarney Athletic at home in the 1st round of the National cup, with the following 2 matches coming up in the league, so it was all to play for to see who get the 1st bragging rights.
The 1st Half
The Park lads started strongly and they got into a great passing rythm
switching play from left to right across the pitch and out from defence. The lads
were playing with a great confidence with the midfield and forward line linking
up well. Unfortunately through poor communication between the keeper and
his defence Killarney struck with 10 mins gone to go 1 up with a soft goal.
The park created a lot of half chances of their own with great passing play but
with the final ball either over hit straight to the Killarney keeper of going wide
of the post. 20 minutes into the half and Killarney were 2 nil up from a long
range shot from the No. 8.
The park battled on a continued to play a pass and move game and were nearly
rewarded on the 28 min with a gilt edged chance from dylan slipping by two
defenders with just the keeper to beat but firing wide from close range.
The 2nd half: the park lads continued on as they did in the 1 st half and pressed
forward to get back into the game creating some fine chances with shots from
Dave, Kiwi, Deano and a glorious chance from Conor with just the keeper to beat
firing wide under pressure form the defence.
The lads were on top through out the half and were awarded a penalty on the 22nd minute, Dylan stood up to take the penalty but a great save from the Killarney keeper denied the park their fist goal. It seemed like it was going to be one of those days with nothing going right and no luck on our side. But fortune favours the brave and with 8mins left on the clock Dave started the revival with a wonder strike from a free kick on the left from half way line right into the top corner, 2-1 down and it was all to play for. Killarney were under constant pressure from the Park lads who had their tails up and you could sense and equaliser was coming and fair play to Dylan after missing 2 he duly delivered with a fine goal poacher’s score toe poking the ball to the net with 5 mins to go.
