Division 1
It was the turn of the Park U14 A’s to open their League campaign in
Division 1 away to Castlemaine Utd. Both squads had never met in the league,
cup or through friendlies before so neither team knew what to expect.
The 1st Half
The Park lads started brightly against a physically strong Castlemaine side,
and they got into a great passing rythm switching play from left to right across
the pitch and out from defence through Sean Alan, Dave and Cian with supreme
confidence. The midfield and forward line were linking up well creating some
good chances through Gearoid, Tom and Owen “Minors”with the home side
defending well. It was only a matter of time that the Park lads would score and
with a break from the right Tom took a fine strike from outside the box
by which was parried away by the keeper, with the rebound smashing the net
by Ciaran “Kiwi”. 1- 0 up after 10 mins, the park were passing and
moving brilliantly in all sectors of the field. They were unlucky not to go 2 up
10min later when Gearoid latch on to a Minors cross to strike the crossbar and
collected by the keeper.25 mins into the half and against the run of
play Castlemaine struck from a defensive error to make it level 1-1. The Park
were rocked and lost their shape for the next 5 mins but again their midfield got
on top again, shots from Tom, Owen and Dave and solid defence settled the ship
before halftime.
The 2nd half: the park lads continued on as they did in the 1 st half and pressed
forward to get a second creating some fine chances with shots from Minors, Kiwi
and Conor. Finally the deadlock was broken 15 mins into the half with a fine
strike from Dylan into the left corner beating the ooutstreched Castlemaine
keeper, 2-1 and the Park tails were up moving the ball with great precision
carving up the opposition’s defence like a knife through butter. A third was on
the cards and Dylan duly obliged from the penalty spot to make it 3-1 after
Gearoid was brought down in the box by the keeper.
5 mins later and Dylan finished with a volley to the roof of the net from a cross
from Kiwi , what a sensational way to hit your first hatrick in league
competition.
The park closed the game out with a great strike from Deano on the 33rd
minute and an even better celebration with cart wheels across the pitch.
It was a great sporting game by both sides with the Park proving to be that bit
stronger in the end.
