It was a lovely sunny morning in Tralee for the last under 12 game of the season between Park B and Killarney Celtic C. The game got under way ahead of schedule at 12.15. There was no breeze. Park attacked from the start and after 5 minutes some beautiful football through the centre saw Robert Vasiu pass a lovely ball to Matt Healy who chipped the keeper to make it 1-0. A couple of minutes later there was a 50/50 tackle inside the Park area, James Charles went for the ball along with a Celtic attacker, the Celtic player went down and a penalty was awarded to Killarney. The penalty was put in the net on the rebound to make it 1-1. After that Park had all the play with some lovely play on the right hand side starting with Adam Sheehy who linked up with Leon Daly and Robert creating plenty of chances and near misses.
The second half saw the introduction of TJ Heaphy at left back and as in the first half on the right side there was lovely ball play on the left side with TJ linking up with Earnan Ferris. With a couple of lovely one twos between TJ and Earnan, Earnan was through in the Celtic area and was brought down, however a free kick was awarded just outside the area instead of a penalty. The kick was taken by Robert and having beaten everyone just whizzed over the bar by inches. It was a free kick worthy of the premier league. There were lots of other near misses, one in particular where David (Tiny) Callaghan smashed the ball against the upright. Killarney held on, just about to see the game finish 1-1.
The trophy presented to Park after the game was well deserved. Park have been unbeaten all season in the league, drawing only twice, once today and the other time to the Park C team. They have won the league by a margin of 10 points.
Unfortunately I won’t make it to the presentations on June 6th as I will be on holiday so I would like to take this opportunity to say well done to all the squad who have been so committed all season, showing up for training, putting in the work and making such a good effort. Credit to all players.
